PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Just two days after announcing his departure from Nebraska athletic administration, former Husker Matt Davison announced that he will be leaving the Husker football radio broadcast.

Davison, appearing on air with Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts and play-by-play broadcaster Greg Sharpe, made the announcement prior to the Huskers' game against Rutgers Friday night. Davison said it would be his final game as a color commentator for Nebraska.

"I remember when I was a kid with my dad in the tractor or the truck listening to the broadcasts as a little boy," Davison said on air. "Never did I think that after listening to Kent Pavelka that I might sit next to him. It's just been a lot of fun for me."

The former split end from Tecumseh won a national championship with Nebraska before serving 19 years as the color commentator for Husker football. He also served 15 years as the Husker basketball color commentator. He is perhaps best known for making the game-saving catch against Missouri in 1997, keeping the Huskers' national title hopes alive.

He announced on Wednesday that he would be leaving the athletic department as a senior associate athletic director to help launch The 1890 Initiative, a new name-image-likeness collective. Davison will serve as the organization's president.

He said he is leaving the broadcast booth to focus on his new venture.
