NORFOLK, Neb.— Madison County residents officially have a new place to go for their drivers licenses.

The Norfolk DMV opened its doors today as the new drivers license services center of Madison County, this moved the services out of the courthouse.

Check out how the inside of the building looks, there is six service stations, writing and computer testing areas as well as printers.

Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles Director Rhonda Lahm says the new center just made sense for the area.

“The greater population is in the Norfolk area. And a lot of people, even if they're not in the Norfolk area, come to the Norfolk area for other reasons, maybe for a medical appointment or they have to, you know, have some other kind of an appointment or maybe getting grocery shopping or or some other item. And so when you have 90 days ahead of time to renew your license, they can then coordinate that trip to Norfolk with their other business that they have there,” Lahm said.

The main reason Lahm says the station was put in Norfolk was for the railroads. Drivers tests in Nebraska require a railroad crossing which was harder to come by in Madison.

The new center will only be for drivers license services, car registration will still only be at the Madison County Courthouse.
