WSC's Taya Beller named NSIC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for third time this season

For the third time this season, Wayne State College sophomore middle hitter Taya Beller was named Northern Sun Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.

WAYNE, Neb. -- For the third time this season, Wayne State College sophomore middle hitter Taya Beller was named Northern Sun Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week announced by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota Monday afternoon for her performances in NSIC weekend road wins at Minnesota State and #3 Concordia-St. Paul. Beller also received NSIC Player of the Week honors this season Sept. 26th and Oct. 10th. 

Beller, a graduate of Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family HS, averaged 4.33 kills and 0.78 blocks per set with a .390 hitting percentage in helping WSC clinch the NSIC regular season title with wins at Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul.  She accounted for 18 kills and three blocks in Friday’s 3-1 win at MSU and produced a career-best 21 kills while hitting .436 in Saturday’s come-from-behind 3-2 win over the #3 Golden Bears.

For the season, Beller is averaging 3.94 kills and 0.97 blocks per set for the Wildcats.  She ranks second in the NSIC in hitting percentage (.408), third in kills, fourth in points per set (4.51) and ninth in blocks. 

Wayne State, 29-1 on the season, clinched the NSIC regular season title over the weekend with a 19-1 league record. The Wildcats, ranked second in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, faces #8 seed Augustana Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the opening round of the NSIC Volleyball Tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota.
