Winter weather ready to strike again

Winter weather is returning for a swath of Nebraska.

HASTINGS, Neb. – Winter weather is returning for a swath of Nebraska.

Valley, Greeley, Nance, Sherman, Howard, Merrick, Dawson, Buffalo, Hall, Gosper, Phelps, Furnas, Knox, Cedar, Thurston, Antelope, Pierce, Wayne, Boone, Madison, Stanton, Cuming, Platte, Garfield, Wheeler, Custer, Perkins, Lincoln, Chase, Hayes, Frontier, Dundy, Hitchcock and Red Willow Counties are all under a winter weather advisory until early Thursday evening.

In southwest and central Nebraska, an additional  1-4 inches of snow is possible, with total accumulation reaching up to five inches.

In northeast Nebraska, mixed precipitation is expected, with a change to mostly snow as the day advances. A total accumulation of 1-3 inches of snow is possible in the area, with the possibility of a light glaze of ice underneath due to morning rain.

While not under a winter weather advisory, the Panhandle is receiving light snow Thursday morning, with up to an inch in places like Sidney.

The National Weather Service advises that slick road conditions are likely in the affected areas.

Winds could gust up to 20 miles per hour, as well, possibly creating whiteout conditions during periods of snowfall or shortly afterward.
