NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska man is in custody after a Tuesday incident in a Norfolk parking lot.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., Norfolk Police officers were called to a business in the 700 block of Benjamin Avenue for reports of a suspicious person.

Reporting parties said there was a man in the parking lot asking information about employees and making people uncomfortable, according to Norfolk Police Capt. Michael Bauer.

Employees provided a description of the vehicle that the man was in. When officers arrived, they had contact with the man.

Bauer said the man, identified as 31-year-old Jonathan De La Torre of Fremont, was uncooperative and provided a false name to the officers.

NPD told De La Torre that he was not welcome on the property and that they planned to issue a trespass warning.

Officers advised that they needed the man's correct name, and if he failed to do so, he would be taken into custody. Bauer said De La Torre then refused to identify himself, leading officers to arrest him.

He was arrested for false reporting and obstruction of a peace officer. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
