O'Neill, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska animal shelter is holding a fundraiser this weekend with a Golden Girl on their mind.

The Holt County Animal Shelter in O'Neill will be holding the event this Sunday.

The fundraiser will honor the life of Betty White, a long-time donor to the Best Friends Animal Society.

"We want to honor her legacy, her memory because she did so much for animals in her lifetime and never expected anything in return," said Diana Kohl, shelter manager. "She just did it out of the goodness of her heart."

The event will take place at Neko's Pub in O'Neill. A silent auction will take place.

Food will be catered by Uptown Cooking Creations and the band Neon Lights will be performing.

Kohl told News Channel Nebraska why the event is important for the shelter.

"It will go towards our vetting expenses and food. Because we only rely on donations, adoptions, and boarding, the only way we can really get money to keep this animal shelter functioning is by donations," she said.

The fundraiser will take place from 12 to 3 p.m.

Kohl said that the shelter is planning to hold an adoption event once it gets warmer outside.
