WAYNE, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska school is bringing home a pair of Class B state titles, while a pair of Class A schools battled to a draw at the NSAA State Bowling Championships Tuesday.

Wayne claimed its third straight girls state championship with a 3-1 win over Hastings in the championship round. The Blue Devils' two previous titles were against all competition, as 2023 was the first season in which the competition was split into two classes.

The Blue Devils then won their first boys' bowling title, coming back through the consolation bracket to beat York twice for the crown.

In Class A, Fremont and Grand Island both reached the boys and girls championship rounds, with the schools splitting the titles.

Fremont held off the Islanders, 3-2, in the championship round to hoist the girls trophy, while the Grand Island boys got the 3-2 win over the Tigers in the boys championship round.

It was the first bowling title for the Fremont girls and the second consecutive crown for the Grand Island boys. Fremont won the first ever boys championship two seasons ago in 2021.

The NSAA bowling championships will continue Wednesday. The singles brackets will commence Wednesday afternoon in Lincoln.
