MADISON, Neb. -- Operations at a northeast Nebraska processing plant will be limited for the rest of the week after a fire over the weekend.

Tyson announced in a statement Monday that they are diverting pigs from their processing plant in Madison after a weekend fire kept the facility closed on Monday.

Tyson said the plant's operations will be limited for the rest of the week while they assess the damage.

The Madison plant accounts for about 2% of the hog slaughtering each day in the U.S., which is why company officials said they wanted to divert operations in order to avoid disruptions to the pork market.

A cause of the fire has not been revealed. The plant did not run at all Monday.
