Welcoming the world to Norfolk: Meet the new manager of Norfolk Regional Airport

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Regional airports serve as vital connections to the wider world for small towns. If you live in Norfolk, you likely drive by the regional airport, just off Highway 81 south of downtown.

Airports are the first thing that flown in first-time visitors see, and for the several big businesses that frequently conduct business in Norfolk, the airport manager is likely the first smile they greet.

Meet Elijah Mackie, the new Airport Manager at Norfolk Regional Airport. He started his new position one month ago.

“We make sure that everything that happens on the field happens in a safe manner and a functional manner,” he said.

His role includes tasks like fuel service, airport maintenance, and outlining future projects.

Major plans are already underway. The airport is actively seeking new business opportunities while also considering plans to replace the current terminal building or FBO (fixed base operator).

“It's very important for the airport manager to make a welcoming environment for them,” he said. “This is their first impression of when they come to Norfolk.”

Mackie, a homegrown Nebraskan, is committed to improving local access. He also welcomes northeast Nebraska residents to visit the airport and see the facilities firsthand.

“Come and check it out,” he said. “If you catch me in the office, I’ll give you a tour of the airport.”
