NORFOLK, Neb. -- The annual Scrap Day was held in Norfolk for the 20th time on Saturday.

The event was hosted by Nucor and Alter Metal. Members of the community were able to bring in scrap steel such as old ovens, refrigerators, grills, aluminum cans, and even small electronics.

"The greatest benefit of Scrap Day to our community is making sure we're getting things removed from farms and/or ditches that can impact our water waste for the state of Nebraska," said a Nucor representative. "It's a great opportunity for people to bring things in, clean up their locations that they live and work, and help us recycle to help our business grow."

For the last 20 years, Nucor has put on a Scrap Day for the local community.

There has been 620,000 lbs. of scrap recycled from Norfolk and the surrounding areas over the years that this event has taken place.
