Three national qualifiers for WSC in women's outdoor track, field

Wayne, Neb. --- The Wayne State College women’s track and field team has three qualifiers for the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be held May 25 to 27 in Pueblo, Colorado and hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo.
Graduate student Mckenzie Scheil and senior Brooklynn Chipps are qualifiers in the hammer throw while redshirt sophomore Reilly Young has qualified in the discus.
Chipps, a graduate of Clearwater HS (Elgin), is a national qualifier in the hammer throw for a second straight season after earning All-American honors last spring with a third-place finish. Her season-best mark of 198’ 7” at the USD Early Bird Invite on April 7tth ranks sixth in NCAA Division II. Chipps earned All-NSIC honors last weekend in the hammer throw at the NSIC Championships in St. Paul, Minnesota placing second. She will compete at nationals on Thursday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. Central Time.
Scheil, a graduate of Fillmore Central HS (Fairmont), is a national qualifier in the hammer throw for a fourth time and she’s a three-time All-American in the event. She currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division II with a season-best mark of 199’4 “ at the Central Nebraska/UNK Challenge on April 1. Scheil is the reigning runner-up in the event the last two seasons and placed seventh in the hammer throw at the 2019 nationals. She will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. Central Time.
Young, a native of Scotia and graduate of Central Valley HS, is a first-time national qualifier in the discus and ranks sixth in NCAA Division II with a top throw of 161’ 10” at the Wildcat Classic March 24th. She will compete in the discus at nationals on Friday, May 26 at 3:00 p.m. Central Time.
