STANTON, Neb. -- A child was taken to an Omaha hospital after nearly drowning in Stanton County.

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said officers were sent to Maskenthine Lake, near Stanton, around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday for a near drowning.

Officers said the four-year-old boy, from Lindsay, was under the water for a short period of time after he had taken off his life jacket.

According to authorities, a nearby adult pulled the child out of the water but the boy was unresponsive. A medical helicopter reportedly arrived and took the boy to a hospital in Omaha.
