NORFOLK, Neb. -- The Norfolk Police Division said there was a fatality in the motorcycle vs. vehicle accident that happened Friday.

NPD said that 30-year-old Cody Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday around 9:50 p.m., NPD, Norfolk Rescue, and Madison County Deputies responded to the accident on 13th St. and Omaha Ave.

The accident involved Lucas and a 60-year-old woman from Pierce.

NPD said the accident was between a Buick Enclave driven by the Pierce woman, and a Triumphant Sprint driven by Lucas.

The Pierce woman was stopped for a red light to head north at the intersection.

When the west left turn light changed to green, the Pierce woman drove north through the intersection, running the red light.

NPD said Lucas was turning east from the outside left turn lane for the southbound traffic.

Police said that the motorcycle laid on its left side before the collision, but continued to slide east when the collision happened.

Lucas was reported to be pinned under the Pierce woman's vehicle.

Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The Pierce woman took a breath test, and NPD said that it showed no indication of alcohol.

NPD said their specialized Accident Investigation team and drone team were called to investigate the accident.

The Pierce woman was cited for a misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide with a court date of Nov. 21, 2023.
