Wildcat men and women drop games, former AD in attendance
WAYNE, NE — In a place where he once called home, former Wayne State College athletic director Eric Schoh watched his current university hand the Wildcats men’s and women’s basketball teams losses on Friday night.
Schoh was AD at Wayne State from 2004 to 2012 where he lead the Wildcat athletic programs to 13 NSIC regular season championships and six conference titles.
Under Schoh’s leadership, 20 teams advance to NCAA tournament play including the women’s basketball team in 2012 that went to the Elite Eight and finished the season fourth in the country.
In the first game of the night, the Wildcats built an eight point lead going into half-time and lead the contest by 12 in the second half.
Winona State, who were led by Connor Dillon with 40 points, rallied back and took their first lead of the match with just over five minutes left in the game.
With Dillon missing potential game winning free-throws, the game went to overtime tied at 76.
After taking an early lead in the overtime period, the Warriors took over and closed the door on the Wildcats winning 90-83.
WSC (7-3, 1-3), who have dropped the last three contests after starting 7-0, were led in scoring by Trey Deveaux with 21 and a double-double from Cody McCullough.
With the Warriors looking to get their second win on the season, the Warriors used a 24 point second quarter to propel themselves over the Wildcats.
The Wildcats, who went 1 for 15 in that quarter and 28% in the game, were only able to get as class as 11.
WSC were led in scoring by Jordon Heckert with 12 as the Wildcats fall to 3-4 on the year and 0-4 in conference play.
The men dropped their game against Minnesota State-Mankato on Saturday 110-77. The women play the Mavericks at 5:30 pm on Saturday night.
