OMAHA, Neb. -- A man from Norfolk died from a Sunday collision in Douglas County.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said officers were sent to the area of N 168 St. and Highway 36 around 1 a.m. on Sunday for a report of a personal injury accident.

Officials said a silver 2023 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup was going north on N 168 St. when the driver did not stop at the stop sign. A white 2020 Subaru Outback was reportedly going west on Highway 36 and ended up colliding with the pickup.

According to authorities, four people were injured in the collision and taken to a nearby hospital. One of the victims from the Subaru was 69-year-old Gary Smith, of Norfolk, and he was reportedly declared dead at the hospital.

Officers said the driver of the pickup, 35-year-old Joshua Kuhl, of Iowa, showed signs of impairment. A breath test was reportedly done and Kuhl's blood alcohol levels were higher than the legal limit.

After being released from the hospital, Kuhl was reportedly booked at Douglas County Corrections for motor vehicle homicide, DUI resulting in serious injury (x2) and DUI .15 with two prior convictions.

The investigation is ongoing.
