One dead following shooting in Schuyler late Sunday night

Schuyler Police have confirmed that one person is dead following a shooting that took place in Schuyler late Sunday night.

SCHUYLER, Neb. – Schuyler Police have confirmed that one person is dead following a shooting that took place in Schuyler late Sunday night. 

Authorities told News Channel Nebraska that this was an isolated incident. Ariel Varella Herrera, 44, was found minutes after the report had been received. Police cannot disclose exactly where in Schuyler this took place yet. Another person was also injured in a shooting, but police declined to reveal details about that person.

Buchanan County, Missouri Sheriff's deputies took Rodolfo Cateura Nogueras, 39, into custody on Monday on suspicion of murder.  His Colfax County arraignment on the charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, a weapons violation, and first-degree assault will follow extradition proceedings.

With the suspect in custody, Schuyler Police believe there is no immediate likelihood of harm to the public. The investigation remains ongoing. Stay tuned to News Channel Nebraska for more updates.
