STANTON COUNTY, Neb. -- A man injured in a car crash was cited on drug possession charges Monday.

The Stanton County Sheriffs Office said the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. on Highway 15, eight miles northeast of Clarkson.

According to a press release, a car being driven by 21-year-old Sergio Ibarra, of Sioux City, was traveling southbound when the vehicle crossed over the lane into a ditch, struck a concrete culvert, and rolled before coming to a stop.

Officials said Ibarra was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

SCSO said speed is considered a contributing factor in the crash, and cited Ibarra for driving during suspension, possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

The vehicle is reportedly considered a total loss.
