PILGER, Neb. -- A teen was injured during an accident with a semi near Pilger.

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said officers were sent to Highway 275, about 3/4 miles west of Pilger, for a call of a vehicle accident around 12:20 a.m. on Thursday.

Officers said an SUV was going east when it crossed the center line and crashed almost head-on into a semi that was going west. The SUV reportedly spun to a stop in a ditch while the semi and trailer jack-knifed into a separate ditch, hitting and snapping a power pole which caused a power outage in Pilger.

According to authorities, the driver of the SUV, an 18-year-old, was trapped inside the vehicle for more than an hour and several "Jaws of Life" were used. The teen was reportedly flown to Omaha for critical injuries.

Police said the semi driver was treated at the scene and denied medical transport. Both of the vehicles are reportedly total losses and seatbelts did not appear to be used in the SUV.
