OMAHA, Neb. -- A fatal crash happened at the intersection of Blair High Road and State Road Monday evening, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened on Aug. 26, at 8:49 p.m. Deputies arrived to find a red Chevrolet Equinox and a white Honda CR-V involved in a collision.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 69-year-old Lowell F. Wiese of Randolph, was traveling northbound on Blair High Road (NE Highway 133) when it collided with the eastbound Honda CR-V, driven by a 17-year-old from Omaha.

Investigators suspect that Wiese’s vehicle may have run a traffic signal, leading to the crash.

Wiese was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and was transported to Nebraska Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The 17-year-old was also taken to the hospital, but suffered only minor injuries and is expected to survive.

The accident remains under investigation.
