O’NEILL - It’s a game of inches, and that proved to be the difference as the hometown Eagles topped Pierce 13–7 to stay undefeated at 6–0.

O’Neill dented the scoreboard right out of the chute, as Brady Eichelberger dashed 30 yards for a score on the Eagles' opening drive. A missed extra point made it 6–0 Eagles, and from there it was all defense until the 4th quarter.

Both D’s held firm, particularly on fourth down conversion attempts, until O’Neill’s Porter Mathews picked off a deflected pass and took it 40 yards for a score to make it 13–0 Eagles.

But Pierce immediately responded, going to a quick huddle attack and driving down the field, capping it off with a Ryder Theisen 10-yard scoring scamper.

The Blue Jays got the ball back with a few minutes left and a chance at the winning score, but O’Neill’s defense came through in the clutch, stopping Pierce QB Brock Collison inches short on 4th-and-1.

O’Neill (6–0) heads to Schuyler next week, while Pierce (2–4) is back home against Norfolk Catholic.
