LINCOLN - The Battle Creek Bravettes tremendous season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Kearney Catholic Stars in the Class C1 State tournament.

Battle Creek entered the matchup as the #5 seed, finishing the regular season 22-7. Kearney Catholic held the #4 seed with a record of 24-6.

The Stars got off to a solid start in the first set, jumping out to a 9-4 lead, but the Bravettes rallied back early to tie the game at 15-15.

Kearney Catholic's offensive finished off the first set, led by Payton Dzingle and Hazel Haarberg, winning 25-22.

In the second set, Kearney Catholic picked up where they left off, jumping on Battle Creek early. They found ways to get the Bravettes out of position and secured a two-set lead, winning 25-15.

In the third set, the Bravettes fought back and led for the first portion of the set. The Battle Creek defense was dominant and continued to give the offense more opportunities, but weren't quite able to capitalize.

With the score tied at 23, a service violation gave the Stars a one-point lead and then finished off the sweep on the next play.

The Stars were led by Payton Dzingle with 13 kills, with Hazel Haarberg finishing right behind with 12.

The Bravettes were led by senior Sophie Humphrey with 7 kills and Karley Freudenberg with 6 kills.
