NORFOLK Neb. -- The volleyball State finals are underway and the Pierce Blue Jays won their first game against Milford yesterday which helped propel them to the another round against Wahoo on Friday Nov. 8.

The competition has been fierce for the blue jays in the last few years but they are not ready to give up on the prize of a championship. In their latest games, they have had five set matches the last four times they played.

Coach Weber said, “It shows that we have been  competitive with these teams, and that’s a testament to the girls character we have. In the five set matches we have had, it has been an emotional roller coaster with plenty of highs but also a lot of lows.”

As the Blue Jays continue to fight and win close matches against Milford, Coach Weber also mentioned the great leadership on the team.

“We were down a set going into the fourth and we started slow," Weber said. "To come back from that, it was going to be fight. Once we made it to the fifth set, we found ourselves down 12-6. Fortunately with great attitudes, these girls real showed great leadership and didn’t give until we won."

Throughout the season, they have had their fare share of highs and lows but the team thanks the fans for continuing to fill the stands.

If Pierce wins against Wahoo in the semifinals, they would qualify for the champions on Saturday, Nov. 9.
