NORFOLK - A fire at a northeast Nebraska hospital prompted response from multiple agencies and sent some fleeing to the parking lot.

The fire at Faith Regional Health Services was first reported just before 9:30 a.m. Flames could be seen coming from the exterior of the hospital's main tower, with heavy black smoke wafting into the air.

The fire started in the hospital's HVAC system on the roof of their bed tower, which brought firefighters in from multiple neighboring towns, many of which staged at a gas station across the street.

Norfolk Fire and Norfolk Police worked to divert traffic around the scene.

Faith Regional Health Services said there were no injuries to patients or staff, but video sent to News Channel Nebraska showed two people on the roof of the structure as the fire burned.

The fire has been extinguished.

It's unknown at this time how many people needed to be evacuated.

Faith Regional Health Services is a 131-bed facility based in Norfolk.

"The incident was promptly addressed, and emergency protocols were immediately activated for the safety of Faith Regional’s staff and patients," said Faith Regional Health Services.

"All entrances are currently closed except for Emergency Room needs," said Faith Regional Health Services. "The safety and health of our employees and patients is our top priority at this time. Thank you for your cooperation while we work to gather more information."
