Norfolk Airport seeks bids for new terminal and hangar project

NORFOLK, Neb. -- The Norfolk Airport Authority is seeking bids to construct a new general aviation terminal and aircraft storage hangar at the Norfolk Regional Airport.
The new facility will improve the customer experience, promote economic development opportunities in northeast Nebraska, and become the focal point of the airport, providing a positive first impression to those visiting for business, leisure, and essential services.
The project aligns with the mission, vision, values, and goals established in the airport’s 2022 Airport Strategic Plan. The airport is vital to the regional economy by supporting agricultural spraying operations, air cargo, and business travel.
In 2019, the “Nebraska Aviation Counts!” Economic Impact Study estimated that the airport brings more than 2,600 visitors to the region each year, producing the fifth highest economic impact of Nebraska’s 69 public use, general aviation airports.
By serving as a “front door” to the region, the modern facility will become a destination airport for transient pilots, increase fuel sales and visitor spending, and provide a comfortable venue for guests and meetings.
The airport has secured up to $4.7 million of federal grant funding for the project, which the Norfolk Airport Authority said is thanks in part to Congressman Mike Flood (R-Neb). The remaining project costs will be funded by airport revenues and bonds issued by the Norfolk Airport Authority.
“We are excited about this project and its positive impact on our community,” said acting Airport Manager Grayson Frohberg. “With anticipated federal funds covering over half of the estimated project cost, the time to act is now to provide the best value.”
Construction is expected to begin in summer 2025, with an anticipated ribbon cutting in fall 2026.
