NORFOLK - At one of the biggest track and field meets in Nebraska, small schools were the stars of the show.

The 31st Annual Norfolk Track Classic was held at the Johnny Carson Field in Norfolk.

The invite-only meet features athletes from all six classes competing against each other.

Some of the smallest schools came away with the most impressive performances. West Holt set new meet records in both the boys and girls 4x400 meter relays. The individual honorees also represented for the smaller schools: Delani Runnels of Niobrara/Verdigre, who won the 800 and 1600 and finished second in the 3200; and Barrett Wilke of Stanton, who dominated in both the shot put and discus throw.

Another small school mainstay earned the Track Classic Legend Award: Blair Kalin. The current assistant at Cedar Catholic has coached track for 34 years, winning two team state titles at Hartington-Newcastle in 2013 and 2018.
