Norfolk's car show, a showcase of chrome and community support

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Downtown Norfolk was overwhelmed with sounds of classic hot rods and muscle cars as a car show for a cause hit the streets. 

The humming of the engines reverberating throughout the city on a beautiful Saturday as hundreds of car collectors brought out their best looking rides to showcase them, and possibly win a trophy.

Big crowds made their way out to the River Point district to take in the sights, the sounds, and even pose for a family picture or two in front of the wide variety of cars on display.

For 20 dollars, people could enter their vehicle for a chance to win a trophy in one of numerous categories based on certain eras and makes.

Through sponsorships and entry fees, the show uses the money to help families in the Norfolk community. This year's assistance when to Dacia Vavra and Bree Jorgensen, who dealt with separate medical issues, and Vavra is a single mother, Joregensen a high schooler in Norfolk.

The show organizers say they were a few cars shy of reaching 350 entries, and raised $6,000 in donations.
