Northeast Power starts new project in Pierce County

OSMOND, Neb. -- Northeast Power is breaking ground in Pierce County with a new power grid project.

The company is installing a 2.5-megawatt solar facility and substation near Osmond.

Northeast Power says the new project will enhance system reliability, improve response times during outages and help maintain affordable electric rates.

Osmond was selected for the project due to an infrastructure need. It is the last remaining community in Northeast Power's service area that is still operating on 7,500 volts. The new project is set to raise the grid to 12,500 volts.

Northeast Power also plans to develop additional projects like this one throughout its entire service territory.

Construction of the substation and solar facility will begin immediately. It is expected to be completed in early 2026.

"This groundbreaking symbolizes Northeast's commitment to providing dependable, affordable energy for the customers we serve," a Northeast Power spokesperson said in a statement.

The company says these projects are aimed at providing affordable energy solutions to individuals and families facing financial challenges, offering meaningful utility savings, and promoting equitable energy access.
