Niobrara - A fourth-generation rancher from Niobrara is seeking reelection in the state legislature. Barry Dekay announced on Wednesday that he is running for a second term.

The Niobrara native represents District 40, which includes all or part of six counties in Northeast Nebraska. During his first term, Dekay was elected as Chairman of the Agriculture Committee for the 109th Legislature.

Dekay had two high-profile bills pass this past session, including a bill highlighted by the Department of Agriculture in Washington on Tuesday that bans foreign adversaries from owning land in Nebraska. His other major bill prohibits the sale of lab-grown meat in the Cornhusker State.

Dekay, at the time, is the only candidate who's announced in the District 40 race.
