After four months of labor, the City of Norfolk is almost complete with adding a reservoir that will help the city’s water supply.

Officials at the Norfolk Water Treatment plant say expanding by an extra two million gallons will be essential for their storage system to meet the demands of residential irrigation at times of peak summer heat.

“ So this particular year, with all the rain we got, we didn’t really have those high peak moments, but in a normal summer, we’ll see some high demands close to 12 to 14 million gallons a day, and we rely on the storage system to meet those demands. This gives us another two million to have in our back pocket to help provide that water.”

Underground wells fill the new reservoir, which increases the plant's onsite capacity to four million gallons. Construction is set to finish near the end of August with the reservoir being fully operational by early September.
