The Playfly Huskers Radio Network announced Monday that former Husker assistant coach Jeff Smith will join the men’s basketball broadcast team as an analyst this season.

Smith has been a fixture in the Lincoln basketball community, serving on Danny Nee’s coaching staff for seven seasons from 1988 until 1995 while also coaching more than two decades in the high school ranks. The Huskers made six postseason appearances during Smith’s tenure, including four straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 1991-94. He also coached at Eastern Washington and Peru State.

Smith was the longtime coach at Lincoln Southeast High School, leading the program to a 324-153 record with 13 state tournament berths and two state championship final appearances in 20 seasons. He also coached Pawnee City High School for three years, compiling a 41-18 mark at the school.

He played collegiately at Peru State, where he was a four-year starter at point guard and played baseball at the school. The Lincoln native was a three-sport standout at Lincoln Southeast, winning state championships in football (1977) and baseball (1977) and a runner-up finish in basketball (1978) during his high school career.

Smith replaces Jake Muhleisen, who stepped away from the broadcast booth after seven seasons.
