NORFOLK, Neb. – In a move aimed at enhancing Norfolks infrastructure and community, the Norfolk City Council has passed a resolution adopting the capital improvement program, which includes a one- and six-year plan for street improvements.

"One key project includes the reconstruction of 25th street North Benjamin Avenue, estimated to cost around $4.5 million." Said Steven Rames, Norfolk's Public Works Director and City Engineer.

In addition to major construction, the program also addresses essential maintenance. "We're planning maintenance projects like chip seals and milling overlays," Rames said. "As our eastern boundary expands towards Highway 35, we will install streetlights along East Benjamin Avenue."

Additional projects include repairs at the intersection of Victory Road and Benjamin Avenue, along with $475,000 dedicated to "gap paving." Rames said. "Gap paving targets areas with two blocks or less of gravel that need to be closed in or covered.

A specific example is a segment in Jackson, on the south side, between 5th and 3rd Street." Rames emphasized, “When iIt’s all said and done, the financial benefits of this funding will highlight a focus on pedestrian safety and update several street and infrastructure projects that Norfolk has needed for some time.”
