NORFOLK, Neb. – The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is collaborating with economic development partners across Northeast Nebraska, hosting roundtable sessions to gather insights from local leaders.

NDOT Director Vicki Kramer, in partnership with the 6 Regions One Nebraska team, aims to understand community priorities and transform long-term projects into short-term realities.

During a recent discussion in Norfolk, the primary focus was enhancing the safety of Highway 81.

Key topics included improving intersections with left-turn arrows, influencing driver behavior to reduce speeding, and leveraging technology for safer roads. "We're excited to take these ideas back to our traffic department and find a solution," said Kramer.

Kramer emphasized that these discussions are a direct response to feedback received over the past two and a half years under Governor Pillen’s administration, highlighting the need for safer roads in communities.

"We know people want to ensure their kids are safe in vehicles," Kramer noted. NDOT plans to continue these roundtable discussions in Wayne, Winnebago, and other small communities throughout the year, with the goal of fostering dialogue and developing transportation solutions that support prosperous, safe, and connected communities.
