NORFOLK, Neb. - A proposal to connect two housing developments in northeast Norfolk is advancing as discussions continue among city leaders.

The Norfolk City Council voted 5-3 on second reading in favor of a trio of ordinances that would allow for connecting Meadow Ridge to Legacy Bend. The approval advances the ordinances to a third and final vote.

The proposal would connect McIntosh Road to Legacy Drive. Extending McIntosh would create a second access point for Legacy Bend, which is currently only reachable via Sunrise Drive. The effort comes as the Legacy Bend developer considers starting the next phase of construction for the neighborhood, which would include building three more apartment buildings. The neighborhood currently has 185 apartment units and 19 houses.

At Monday’s meeting, a woman who lives on Sunrise Drive spoke in favor of the new connection. She said having the lone access point to the neighborhood is a safety hazard. People who live near McIntosh Road spoke against the proposal, citing worries about speeding and increased wait times when trying to turn onto Benjamin Ave.
