Norfolk, Neb. - Governor Jim Pillen recently visited Physicians Mutual's new Norfolk location, a nationwide provider of health, life, and retirement insurance, celebrating its opening nearly eight months ago. The Governor expressed his enthusiasm, noting the excitement of the employees and the company's commitment to helping people with insurance.

"It's really fun to see the enthusiasm and excitement of these employees," Pillen said, highlighting the significance of the insurance industry in Nebraska. "We do more than 10% of all insurance across the United States of America, so great career, and great opportunities for Nebraskans here in Norfolk."

In addition to the celebration, Governor Pillen provided an update on the detention center in McCook, outlining its potential benefits for Nebraska and its intended capacity.

"Early in the week," Pillen stated, "we had the last inspections from the Department of Homeland Security. There were a few more things that took a little longer than we anticipated, so that’s why everything changed."

The facility, operating under a three-year agreement with Homeland Security, is designed to house violent offenders. Pillen specified that the facility will initially house 200 people, with plans to expand to accommodate an additional 100 upon completion.

The Governor also detailed the financial benefits of the detention center, emphasizing its role in enhancing community safety.

"This operation will improve the net bottom line by $25 million and will basically give the state a cash flow positive of $14 million," Pillen explained. "So, another big piece of running government like a business and doing our fair share to keep our community safe."

While a specific opening date for the McCook facility has not been set, the Governor anticipates it will be operational within a couple of weeks from October 24. Upon opening, the detention center will receive approximately 10 illegal migrants per day, eventually reaching a capacity of 300, which is expected to generate over $2 million in monthly revenue for the state.
