LINCOLN, Neb.-- The State of Nebraska is alleging a Swiss billionaire has been funneling money to support many ballot measures approved by voters in recent years.

State Attorney General Mike Hilgers filed a lawsuit in Madison County on Wednesday against billionaire Hansjörg Wyss and a number of non-profits alleging they funneled money that indirectly went toward campaigns for six different ballot measures.

Hilgers alleges that Wyss-funded groups funneled over ten million dollars to groups that campaigned for mostly left-leaning ballot initiatives, including the minimum wage increase, paid sick leave, medical marijuana, pro-abortion and anti choice referendums.

Hilgers says Wyss-run non-profits funneled money downward...eventually reaching Nebraska non-profits like Nebraska Appleseed, Civic Nebraska and the Nebraska abortion and reproductive justices fund.

“These allegations are false," a spokesperson for the Wyss Foundation and Berger Action Fund told NCN. "We are confident the facts will demonstrate that the Wyss Foundation and Berger Action Fund have always complied with the law”

Foreign nationals were banned from contributing to ballot initiatives in a law passed in 2022.
