Grand Island begins demolition of old fire station #3
Grand Island’s firefighters have moved into the new Fire Station #3, and crews have begun demolishing the old station that served the city since 1987.
By News Channel NebraskaGRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Demolition is officially underway at the site of Fire Station #3 in Grand Island, and marks the beginning of the final step in the transition from the old building to the new facility which sits on the same property.
The station along S Webb Rd. was home to Grand Island firefighters since 1987.
Crews recently moved into a brand-new, $4.5 million dollar station built on the same location.
The new facility has more space to house firefighters and a new ambulance bay to improve emergency response, according to fire officials.
The project was approved earlier this year by Mayor Roger Steele, and city officials say it marks a major investment in public safety for Grand Island’s growing west side.
