LEIGH, Neb.- One Northeast Nebraska native is forging his own path in the US Navy.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Trae Machmueller grew up in Leigh. As a child, he was inspired to join the Navy from stories he heard from his grandpa and uncles.

Serving at Afloat Training Group in San Diego California, Machmueller plays a crucial role in maintaining a highly trained and prepared naval force.

The group says their role extends to evaluating and certifying all Pacific Fleet ships to ensure they meet the evolving standards required for naval and joint combat operations.

During his time, Machmueller has trained over 30 sailors on basic and advanced certifications through two deployments.

Today, Machmueller serves as a Fire Controlman, but thanks his family for holding him accountable when he was growing up.
