KEARNEY, Neb. — A national animal welfare fundraiser returned to Kearney this week and raised thousands of dollars for local animal shelters through a live, interactive donation campaign.

"Jordan’s Way" partnered with the Kearney Area Animal Shelter for its second visit, using social media livestreams and on-site challenges to encourage donations.

The fundraiser raised more than $10,000, with contributions continuing for several days following the event.

The organization works with hundreds of shelters nationwide, focusing on generating support for animals that have spent extended time in care.

Fundraisers typically feature participation from shelter staff and volunteers who take part in stunts, such as pies in the face, slime, or other challenges, once donation goals are met.

Organizers say the format is designed to increase engagement and reach new audiences online, while giving shelters a platform to highlight adoptable animals and ongoing needs.

Local shelter representatives said the event helped bring additional visibility to their operations and provided financial support that will go toward animal care and shelter programs.
