NORFOLK, Neb. - One developer’s dream of building tiny homes in northeastern Nebraska will have to wait a little longer.

Maple Park Court LLC presented plans Tuesday to build a tiny-home community in Norfolk, just across the street from Johnson Park.

The Norfolk City Council voted to table the rezoning request until more developed plans get put forward.

“Whether this is the location for it or not I guess we’ll find out. But with all of the information I think we have received tonight I think it would certainly move us to take a look at a site plan and some renderings before we jump into a decision,” said Frank Arens.

Developer Jacob Miller says the proposed lots would be about 200 square feet and would rent for $300 to $500 a month.

However, the council wanted more information on how the community would be maintained and how it would differ from a trailer park.

For those that grew up in a full-sized home, it might seem like a lot of for a little, but Ty Woznek thinks it could be a fit for his young adult sons. He says homes like these would be stepping stones toward home ownership.

“This is an opportunity to solve that housing cost crisis, so my kids who are getting to the point of needing to start off have that opportunity and they can stay in Norfolk, and not have to move elsewhere where housing is affordable,” said Woznek.

Maple Park Court will be back with a more in-depth plan at the next meeting.
