By News Channel NebraskaCOLUMBUS, Neb. — A Northeast Nebraska nonprofit, which aided over 2,500 individuals with essential clothing items in 2025, is expanding its operations to offer more comprehensive support. The Rescue Mission in Columbus has commenced construction on a new facility, funded by generous community donations, aimed at improving its clothing ministry.
The expansion will provide a safer and more efficient environment for sorting and distributing clothing. According to Mission chaplain David Porter, the new building will offer increased space and a climate-controlled setting throughout the year, a significant improvement over the current garage setup.
A notable contribution of $7,000 was received from the Elks Country Club, though the mission continues to seek further support to complete the project. While a specific completion date has not been set, Porter emphasized that every donation is valuable in helping the Rescue Mission achieve its goals.
