GERING - The Sidney Lady Raiders and Red Raiders completed a road sweep of Gering on Thursday night, with the Lady Raiders pulling away for a 63-37 victory and the Red Raiders holding off a late Bulldog push for a 63-56 win.

The Sidney Lady Raiders (14-4) used a stingy second half defensive to turn a nine-point halftime lead into a convincing 26-point win over the Gering Bulldogs (7-12).

Gering jumped out early as Jacelyn Brown and Aubrey Anderson knocked down three-pointers to give the Bulldogs a 6-3 lead. Sidney responded with a 14-5 run to close the first quarter, taking a 17-11 advantage.

The Lady Raiders continued to build momentum in the second period, extending their lead to 32-23 at halftime. After intermission, Sidney’s defense took complete control, limiting Gering to just 14 second-half points to seal the 63-37 win.

Laramey Misegadis and Reagan Nesbitt paced Sidney with 10 points apiece, while Aubrey Anderson led Gering with 13 points.

In the boy’s game, the Sidney Red Raiders (7-12), coming off a 73-35 win over Gering in the Western Conference Tournament on Saturday, faced a much more determined Bulldog squad and had to battle for every possession.

Sidney took a narrow 10-8 lead after the first quarter. Kash Knobbe sparked a 12-3 run in the second period with eight points, pushing the Red Raiders ahead 22-11. Gering answered with an 8-0 surge over the final three minutes of the half to cut the deficit to 22-19 at the break.

The Bulldogs poured in 22 points in the third quarter, but Keian Kaiser countered with 10 points of his own to help Sidney maintain a 47-41 lead heading into the final period.

Sidney opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to give the Red Raiders their largest lead of the night 55-41. Junior Rhys Dorcey scored 10 points off the bench in the quarter to help keep Gering at bay as the Red Raiders closed out the 63-56 victory.

Keian Kaiser led five Sidney players in double figures with 15 points. Alek Doty added 14, Knobbe finished with 11, and Rhys Dorcey and Kale Kaiser chipped in 10 points each. Ryland Ray led Gering with 21 points.

The Lady Raiders and Red Raiders return to action Saturday when they host Scottsbluff at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. The girl’s game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff, followed by the boy’s game at 5:00 p.m. The games can be heard live on 1340 AM/95.7 FM Cheyenne County Country, online at thebigboy987.com, or on the News Channel Nebraska app.
