New DMV center to replace Madison County Courthouse license services
Getting, renewing, or updating your drivers license in Madison County is getting easier next week.
NORFOLK, Neb.— Getting, renewing, or updating your drivers license in Madison County is getting easier next week.
A new Department of Motor Vehicle service center is coming to Norfolk, moving these services out of the courthouse in Madison.
“When our examiners process someone, like for a driver's license renewal, they'll then pay the examiner, get their temporary receipt, and be on their way. And there will be no need for them to stop off at a second office like currently happens. in Madison,” Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles Director Rhonda Lahm said.
Lahm says this new service center at 2209 N 13th Street, which is close to the Game and Parks office, just made more sense for the needs of the county.
“One of the things that we need to for our commercial drivers testing is we need a railroad track, and so there was not one close to the Madison area so we’re having to drive to Norfolk anyway,” Lahm said. “So it just made sense to locate the new service center in Norfolk.”
The new center will only be for license services, all other services, such as car registration will only be available at the Madison County Courthouse.
The last day for DMV services at the courthouse will be Friday, and the Norfolk location will open at 8 a.m. on Thursday, February 19th. Services will be provided in surrounding counties in the meantime.
