Unattended deaths, missing person search in Brown County Sheriff’s weekly report

AINSWORTH, Neb. — Investigations into two unattended deaths and a search for a missing person were among the incidents highlighted in the Brown County Sheriff’s Office weekly report.

On March 13, the office, along with Nebraska State Patrol investigators and drone pilots, searched for a missing person in rural Brown County. Additional details about that case have not been released.

Earlier in the week, authorities investigated two unattended deaths, one in Long Pine on March 10 and another in north rural Brown County on March 11.

Deputies also responded to several crashes, including a single-vehicle accident March 8 on Highway 20. The driver was later located and found to be uninjured but was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, minor in possession of alcohol and possession/consumption of an open alcohol container. On March 9, a deputy responded to a car-versus-deer crash near Johnstown.

In another case, deputies investigated a report of a missing horse in rural Brown County on March 9. Authorities contacted the individual training the horse and later found the animal deceased. The incident was documented and reported to the owner.

Here’s a look at the complete Brown County Sheriff's Office Weekly Report from March 8 through March 14:

“March 8th 

Brown County Deputies investigated a single vehicle accident east on Highway 20. The driver of the vehicle was located and found to be ok. The driver of the vehicle received citations for leaving the scene of an accident, minor in possession of alcohol and possession/consumption of an open alcohol container. 

Brown County Jail released an inmate after completing their court commitment. 

Brown County Deputy provided a civil standby in Ainsworth. 

Brown County Deputies responded to an area of a reported careless driver. The deputies were unable to find the reported vehicle. 

March 9th 

Brown County Sheriff assisted with a juvenile issue in Ainsworth. 

Brown County Deputy responded to a car vs. deer accident near Johnstown. 

Brown County Sheriff assisted an individual in Ainsworth with suspicious activity around their house. Brown County Sheriff spoke with neighbors that may have been involved. 

Brown County Sheriff investigated a complaint of a missing horse in Rural Brown County. Brown County Sheriff was able to contact the individual training the horse. During the investigation the horse was found dead. Brown County Sheriff documented the deceased horse, and proof was sent to the owner. 

March 10th 

Brown County Sheriff provided court security for District court in Ainsworth. 

Brown County Sheriff and the County Attorney spoke with the FBI in regard to the runaway Juvenile from a few weeks prior. 

Brown County Sheriff, Ainsworth Fire Chief, and deputies investigated an unattended death in Long Pine. 

A traffic stop was made in Ainsworth; the driver received a repair order for none of the lights working to the rear of his vehicle. 

Brown County Deputies attended a two-state meeting in Valentine. 

March 11th 

Brown County Sheriff and Deputy investigated an unattended death in North rural Brown County.

A traffic stop was made in Ainsworth; the driver received a written warning for speeding. 

A traffic stop was made near Long Pine; the driver received a written warning for speeding and no driver’s license on person. 

Brown County Sheriff Office received reports of a careless driver where multiple cars had to drive into a ditch to avoid possible collisions. The driver of the vehicle was contacted by a Deputy, and a citation was issued to the driver for careless driving. 

Brown County Deputy provided a motorist assist after they ran out of fuel south on Highway 7.

Brown County Sheriff Office received numerous complaints about an individual in Ainsworth that has been purchasing and providing alcohol to underage minors. Brown County Deputies were able to contact the reported individual while the exchange of alcohol was being done with the minors in Ainsworth. The individual providing alcohol to minors received citations for procuring/selling alcohol to minors and possession of drug paraphernalia. The minors involved received citations for minors in possession of alcohol, tobacco/electronic nicotine use under 21 years of age, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Brown County Deputy responded to a report of a suspicious person near the airport ponds off highway 20. 

March 12th 

Brown County Sheriff assisted with an injured deer in the roadway on Highway 20.

Brown County Sheriff provided traffic control for a cattle crossing south on Highway 7.

A traffic stop was made in Ainsworth; the driver received a written warning for no registration on their vehicle. 

March 13th 

Brown County Sheriff and Deputy along with Nebraska State Patrol investigators and drone pilots worked in rural Brown County an attempt to locate a missing person. 

Brown County Administrator attended leadership training in Norfolk. 

March 14th 

Brown County Sheriff office received a report about a vehicle tailgating their car on Highway 20. The Deputy was able to observe the reporting vehicle and witness the tailgating that was reported. A traffic stop was made, and the driver received a citation for following to closely. 

A traffic stop was made east on Highway 20; the driver received a citation for driving 11 Mph over the posted speed limit. 

A traffic stop was made west on Highway 20; the driver received a written warning for driving left of the yellow center line. 

A traffic stop was made in Ainsworth; the driver received a repair order for improper/defective vehicle lighting and obstructed view. 

A traffic stop was made in Ainsworth; the driver received a warning for driving without headlights turned on.”
