WAYNE, Neb. -- A Wayne State alumnus got the ultimate honor during homecoming weekend, with the college naming an endowed scholarship after him.
Wahoo native Dean Jacobs was awarded the inaugural civic engagement award for alumni at Wayne State College, in addition to being honored with the Dean Jacobs Endowed Scholarship.
Jacobs graduated from Wayne State with a degree in biology, in addition to minors in earth science and art. After graduating, he worked in the administration of Wayne State College as the Assistant to the President before moving on to work at Purina Mills. Eventually the corporate path led him to Pfizer Pharmaceuticals where he was employed in sales and marketing for 10 years.
Jacobs eventually left the security of corporate America and decided to pursue other dreams. He has since traveled the world, including a trip that spanned nearly two years and 28 countries, while also working as an author, journalist, photographer and keynote speaker.
