STANTON, Neb. -- A contract for police services between Stanton County and the City of Stanton has been extended until 2027.

Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger says the contract has been renewed for a cost of approximately $110,000 per year. The contract covers all city 911 and dispatching services. The contract between the two entities has been in place since the disbanding of the Stanton Police Department in 1995.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s office currently provides all law enforcement to the city.

Unger says numerous other Nebraska cities and villages of similar size also contract their police services with local sheriff’s offices and called it a "cost-saving benefit to all the citizens of Stanton County and especially those that reside in Stanton."
