Metro's Covid transmission risk drops

According to the Douglas County Health Department, the county is no longer in the "high" category, moving instead to the "substantial” risk category.

After months and months of sitting in the high-risk category for transmitting COVID-19, the Omaha Metro areas has dropped down a notch.

According to the Douglas County Health Department, the count has moved to the "substantial” risk category.

The only two lower categories are “moderate and low.”

The county is reporting 71 percent of residents five and older are fully vaccinated.

For the past several days the county has been averaging about 60 new cases a day, well down from some 400 six weeks ago.

Four new deaths have been reported in the last 72 hours, two vaccinated and two unvaccinated.

Douglas County is reporting 1,072 Covid deaths since the pandemic began.

The City of Omaha's mask mandate was lifted February 16.
