NORFOLK, Neb. -- The Norfolk High School FFA chapter hosted an Ag event on Friday to influence a new generation of farmers.
High schoolers had the opportunity to teach kindergartners about farm animals and farming equipment at the Pohlman Agriculture Complex.
The kindergartners learned about 10 different animals such as pigs, goats, and horses.
Norfolk High School Sophomore, Myranda Hansen, taught the children about beef cows at the event.
"Beef cows produce meat for the world. So, hamburgers and steak. Kindergartners always get a little surprised by that. We brought two of our cattle that we raised and they are only about a year old and they're pretty big so that also surprises the kindergartners," said Hansen.
Hansen also explained why the event was so important for a younger generation.
"I think it's important for everyone starting at a young age to know where their food comes from. So, I think this is a great opportunity to explore that area," Hansen said. "And I think it's great to have the kindergartners involved in agriculture."
She also encourages students to learn more about the FFA and Ag and recommends taking a class in high school to see if it's the right fit for them.
The ag event will also be open to the public this evening.
