WAYNE, Neb. -- Balanced hitting from Kelsie Cada, Taya Beller and Maggie Brahmer propelled #5 Wayne State College in a 25-12, 28-26, 25-17 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep over Minnesota State Saturday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. WSC is now 11-0 and 2-0 in the league while the visiting Mavericks fall to 1-9 and 0-2 in the NSIC.

Wayne State controlled the first set, forcing 10 Maverick attack errors and a -.059 hitting percentage to coast to a 25-12 win. Brahmer had four kills and three blocks to get the 'Cats off to a quick start followed by Cada with three kills.

The second set saw the Wildcats trail much of the way before rallying for a 28-26 set win. WSC trailed 20-16, but scored three straight points to get within one at 20-19 to force a Minnesota State timeout. MSU still led 22-19 when WSC used a trio of kills from Beller along with an ace from Havyn Heinz for a 23-22 lead.

The two teams traded points and exchanged ties and with the score tied at 26 WSC got a kill from Cada and an attack error from Minnesota State to post a 28-26 set win.

Beller recorded nine kills in the set to power the Wildcats while Cada added five kills with two blocks.

The third set saw the Wildcats slowly extend their lead and complete the sweep with a 25-17 victory.

WSC was holding a 16-14 lead when the 'Cats scored five straight points to finally extend their advantage over the Mavericks. Back-to-back blocks by Brahmer and freshman Taylor Bunjer highlighted the scoring surge as WSC completed the sweep.

Cada had the hot hand in the third set for WSC with seven kills.

Wayne State finished the match with a .339 hitting percentage on 46 kills, eight errors, and 112 attacks while holding Minnesota State to a .147 percentage with 40 kills, 23 errors, and 116 attacks. Minnesota State held a 51-48 edge in digs on the Wildcats but WSC was an 8-2 leader in blocks and 3-2 in service aces.

Cada posted a match-high 15 kills followed by Beller with 13 to lead the Wildcats. Brahmer had nine kills and a .562 hitting percentage while Beller hit .522.

Senior libero Jessie Brandl had 12 digs followed by Cada with nine. Junior setter Rachel Walker handed out 37 set assists while Jordan McCormick had two service aces.

The Wildcats will be at home again Tuesday evening for a non-conference match vs. Peru State at 6:00 p.m.
