Cook gets 800th win as Nebraska sweeps Michigan State

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook got his 800th career coaching win, and he did it in style, with his Huskers sweeping Michigan State in front of a raucous Devaney Center crowd.
The third-ranked Huskers started Big Ten play with a dominating 25-15, 25-19, 25-23 performance against the Spartans.
Nebraska outhit Michigan State, .224 to .170, despite being outhit in the third set. The Huskers got out to a fast start by hitting a blistering .379. Nebraska limited the Spartans to a paltry .154 mark in the second set.
The Huskers had advantages in kills (43-27), assists (39-25), digs (43-37) and committed five fewer service errors than MSU. The Spartans out-blocked the Huskers, 9-6.
Leading the Huskers was Madi Kubik, who had a match-high 14 kills. She also had one of the match's only two service aces.
Cook is now just the 19th NCAA Division I coach with 800 career wins, and he is only the sixth active coach to reach the mark.
Nebraska, which is now 9-1 on the season, will be back at work Saturday, hosting seventh-ranked Ohio State at 7:00 p.m. CT inside the Devaney Center.
