Meteorological history, 2022 driest year on record in Norfolk
With the ongoing drought, it will come as no surprise to many that 2022 made new meteorological history.
NORFOLK, Neb. -- With the ongoing drought, it will come as no surprise to many that 2022 made new meteorological history.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, 2022 was the driest year on record in Norfolk.
The NWS said the northeast Nebraska town saw just 13.7 inches of liquid precipitation. That's less than half the amount Norfolk gets in a normal year.
It was also the least snowiest year in Norfolk history, with just 7.1 inches recorded - 29/5 inches is normal.
Not surprisingly, Madison County is listed in exceptional drought in the latest Drought Monitor Map.
That's the highest level of intensity, which is covering about 17% of the state to begin the new year.
